
Butterfly pea flower. 2026. Diptych of embroidery on phytograms (plant-based photographs). 7 x 10 inches.

Making this piece was layered and process-heavy: I started by embroidering an image of a butterfly pea plant on B&W photo paper. Of course, this meant I was inadvertently exposing the paper, which had not yet been printed. The pink areas are where my hands made the most consistent contact with the paper.

This image above shows the initial chemical reaction of the paper to the butterfly pea flowers, which had soaked in homemade developer for several hours.
Below are the two phytograms in progress. You can see how the colors shifted over time with prolonged exposure from the top to the bottom image.
