Indigo from Seed to Dye, South Park Slope, Brooklyn

Polygonum Tinctorium (Japanese Indigo). 2017. South Park Slope, Brooklyn.
In full sun, once transplanted after having been seeded in my apartment, Japanese indigo buds are flourishing under my brother’s care in his fertile garden. Thanks to support from Puffin Foundation West allowing me to produce indigo from seed to dye in Brooklyn, and to provide dyeing workshops incorporating context about tropical indigo as a colonial American cash crop.
