Curator’s statement:
The home is a haven where we can explore who we are; experiment with boundaries between family, lovers and friends; experience intimacy for the first time; meditate and create. Through diverse media and techniques (knitting, weaving, live plants, paint, collage, poetry, embroidery, appliqué, drawing), the artists in Crafting Home address these concepts and more, transforming the Brooklyn Cottage’s ground floor apartment into a walk-in art installation. Sculptures that seem as though they’re part of the home decor will rest on kitchen countertops, couches and desks; hand-stitched textiles will adorn the bed and couch; house plants will impart poetry. Exhibited artwork will include works in progress, as well as finished pieces– emphasizing that, for several of the artists, home is a creative studio.
